La newsletter della Chesterton Collection. Il saluto di padre Jim.

“I wish we could sometimes love the characters in real life as we love the characters in romances. There are a great many human souls whom we should accept more kindly, and even appreciate more clearly, if we simply thought of them as people in a story.”

Gilbert K. Chesterton

Welcome

Dear Friends of the G.K. Chesterton Collection,

I recently had the most wonderful trip to Beaconsfield with Chesterton researcher William Griffiths and London Global Gateway faculty member Hadas Elber-Aviram. We were able to visit Chesterton's parish church, the grave sites of Gilbert and Frances, The White Hart, Overroads, and Top Meadow. It was such a privilege, pleasure, and blessing to walk the footsteps of that giant of a man.

It is with some sadness that I announce my leave-taking from

London. This is my last contribution to the Chesterton Newsletter, in my role as academic lead at Notre Dame’s center in London, before returning to Notre Dame's home campus to take up work there. Among the many roles that I’ve played at the Gateway in the past six years, one of the joys has been to be a part of the machinations which have brought the Chesterton Collection, acquired and capably guided by Aidan Mackey, the Caldecott family, and the Chesterton Library Trust for so long, from the Oxford Oratory Library to Fischer Hall.

In late October 2022 we hosted a magnificent series of events to bless the newly situated Collection, including a Mass at St. Patrick’s Church in Soho, an exhibition of the Collection, and a celebratory dinner at the Royal Horseguards Hotel. The next day we hosted a conference, which included Chesterton scholars from as far away as the U.S. and South Africa, and as near as Cambridge, Oxford, and St. Andrew’s. As I move on, I ask for your prayers for me and my ongoing service to the Church, as I pledge my prayers for you. May the Chesterton Collection be the force for good that I believe it can be in the world. God bless you!

Yours,
Fr. Jim

(Traduzione: Cari amici della G.K. Chesterton Collection,

A voi,

Padre Jim)
